Project Details
An office landlord at the Airport Corporate Centre wanted to upgrade a tired single-door lobby entrance to a vestibule with card access, without closing the lobby on a business day.
Scope
- Remove the existing entrance and prepare the opening for a two-door vestibule
- Install a Kawneer wide stile aluminum entrance system with sidelites
- Hang doors on continuous geared hinges with LCN closers set for wind and traffic
- Install electrified strikes, door position switches and request-to-exit devices
- Commission all hardware with the building’s access control vendor
Outcome
The crew worked Friday evening through Sunday. Card readers went live on the first test, the vestibule cut drafts in the lobby noticeably, and tenants walked into a finished entrance on Monday morning with no complaints.
Why it worked
Prepping the doors for access control during installation, rather than retrofitting later, meant the security vendor only had to connect and program. Scheduling the vendor into the same weekend avoided a second disruption.
