North York is fire door territory. The office towers of North York Centre at Yonge and Sheppard, the condo high-rises along the Sheppard corridor, and the office parks of Don Mills, Consumers Road and Duncan Mill carry hundreds of corridor and stairwell fire doors per building. Toronto Fire Services inspections find the same problems over and over: painted labels, oversize gaps and closers that will not latch.
As part of the City of Toronto, the district gets our 2-hour typical emergency arrival. Our core work here is fire-rated doors, closer repair and quarterly or semi-annual service contracts with written NFPA 80 reports.
Since Line 4 Sheppard opened in 2002, condo and office towers have kept rising between Sheppard-Yonge and Don Mills, and each one adds dozens of rated corridor and stairwell doors. Winters average 125.2 cm of snow, and the stack effect that comes with heating season is the main reason those doors stop latching between November and March.
Crews arrive by Highway 401, the Don Valley Parkway and Allen Road, with Yonge, Sheppard, Finch and Don Mills Road taking us to towers and office parks. As part of the City of Toronto, calls here get a 2-hour typical emergency arrival.
Tower work is coordinated with property management for elevator bookings and floor access, and stairwell door work is staged so tenants always have stair access.
